Meet Sophie!

Sophie is a very loving little Griffon wantabee that was picked up as a stray in Fort Worth, TX and ended up in the dog pound. She was rescued by her foster mom.

Sophie is a total charmer, she loves to hug your neck, give kisses, and snuggle under your arm when she is in your lap. She has lots of energy but she is gentle so I think she would do well with kids. She gets along with other dogs and cats. She is crated for up to eight hours a day and has had no accidents. She weighs 14 pounds and is estimated to be between 1 to 2 years old. She was heartworm positive and has now been successfully treated. She will be spayed before she is placed.

Sophie is located in a foster home in Austin, Texas.

If you would like more information, contact Kathy. If you are interested in adoption please fill out our Adoption Application.

Keep in mind that we prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to fly in to get the dog and that can only happen if the dog is stable enough to travel in the cabin with the passenger.

Sophie Before Grooming

Sophie has been Adopted!

John and Nina drove over 5 hours from Wichita Falls to Austin to meet Sophie. After the first 30 minutes, Sophie was tentatively taking treats from their hands. By the end of the evening, she was quite the flirt, loving all the attention she was getting. John and Nina spent the night in a nearby dog-friendly hotel and headed home the next morning with their newest family member. Below are some excerpts from Nina's emails on Sophie's progress.

"She is settling in with us, it is like she has always been here. She and I had great bonding time today and I love her to pieces. I went to puppy obedience orientation this evening. Sophie starts next week. We are doing great with her."

"Today was Sophie’s first day at the shop and she did wonderful. We had a couple of times where she barked a bit longer than necessary but considering, she did just great. One of the best things you did was send the bed you made for her. She loves that bed. She is settling in with us just great and we feel she is a good match for us."

May 11, 2004 - An update from Sophie'a new Mom and Dad:

We are sending you a box today by USPS as a thank you for our little girl. She is a delight to us and she is getting used to our routine as we are getting more comfortable with hers! She is such a character and such a lover. She really likes being a shop dog and greets everyone that comes in. Some with a tail wag others with not such a friendly welcome. Meaning for those non-dog lovers.
