Meet Benji!

Benji is a 2-year-old, male Brussels Griffon, recently rescued at a puppy mill auction. This 15-pound bundle of joy will melt your heart with his soulful eyes, trusting nature and playful antics. At first encounters he is very timid, but quickly warms up to people offering his paw as a sign of trust. He LOVES to play and is happiest when wrestling with his canine playmates, chewing on a bone, or “roughing up” his stuffed toys. Benji balances play time with nap time, and even enjoys “lap” time, pressing himself as close to your body as possible.

This special boy is neutered, up to date on shots, crate trained, and walks well on a leash—but he does get spooked easily and will flop around like a fish on a hook for a few seconds before settling down. Like many puppy mill dogs, he’s been “de-barked,” so he makes only the faintest of sounds when expressing himself. He is working on his housetraining manners but currently requires close supervision to prevent accidents.

Benji is a wonderful little dog with a sweet disposition and is well on his way to becoming a great pet. However, he is still frightened of the world around him and requires an adoptive family with patience, understanding and abundance of love to give.

Benji is looking for his special home. He will do best in one with another dog but no children.

Benji is being fostered in Indianapolis, IN.

If you would like more information, contact Beth Lane. If you are interested in adoption please fill out our Adoption Application.

Keep in mind that we prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to fly in to get the dog and that can only happen if the dog is stable enough to travel in the cabin with the passenger.

March 6, 2005 Update

Attached are some new photos I took of Benji today (3-6) after his bath and trim. His coat is really getting beautiful. And bathing him was a breeze this time. The first time I gave him a bath he tried to claw his way out of the tub. Today he sat most of the time and was a very good boy--even when I trimmed his hair. Each day that he is with us I am amazed at how far he has come.
